Caregiver for Elderly Female with Dementia

My mother is in the advanced stage of dementia which causes her to be depressive, anxious, have angry outbursts and behaviour challenges. My mother can still walk but at a slow pace and is at high risk of falls. Two helpers will be hired to care for my mother. You will work as a team together with the other helper and me to take care of my mother, provides companionship by chatting with her and listening to her stories, calming her down when she feels distressed and distraughted, assists her in showering and toileting, prevents falls, taking her out for walks, cooks her meals and coax her to finish her meals, tidying up after her activities and practising strict hygiene to prevent infections. 

During the initiative weeks or months of adjustment for my mother to get used to you as a new helper, there will be angry outbursts at you from my mom. We will support you during this challenging period but you must have the understanding, positive attitude and tolerance to continue engaging my mother until she is comfortable with you.

It will help a lot if you already have an adaptable, calm and compassionate personality to care for the vulnerable elderly with a good understanding of living with a person with dementia, high tolerance for intense mood crises, rational problem solving skill and a playful sense of humour. 

You will not be suitable for this job if you are impatient, sensitive to own feelings being hurt by angry outbursts, resorting to physical aggression towards the elderly and easily gets emotional instead of using rational intelligence to solve problems. 

It is very important that you must be able to speak and understand conversational Mandarin or Cantonese to entertain and interact with my mother throughout the day mainly as a way to distract her from her negative moods.

Your off day is one full day rest every 2 weeks (alternate Sunday off or two days a month). 

In addition to your basic salary, you will also receive generous bonuses and red packets throughout the year as well as paid time-off which are based on your good job performance in the care of my mother.
