Hello to my future employer! My name is Evangeline, but you can call me Eva or Vangie, like my friends do.
I’m from La Union in the Philippines. My family relies on farming for our income. The reason I came to work in Hong Kong is because things were tough back home. Right now, my mom is dealing with some health issues, including high blood pressure and diabetes, and she needs insulin to manage her blood sugar levels. I'm looking for a new employer because my current employer informed me through WhatsApp that they won’t be renewing my contract. The girl I've been caring for is going to study in the UK, and one of them will go with her while the other stays to take care of their 16-year-old son. They can manage things on their own now. I’ve been with them for 8 years, and my visa is valid until September 29, 2025. Over the years, I’ve learned to cook, mostly simple Chinese dishes, and I am eager to learn more if given the opportunity to work for your family. I can promise you that I’m trainable.
I’m looking for an employer who is kind and understanding, someone who treats me well and doesn’t raise their voice when things go wrong. I would also prefer to have my own room, as I currently share a bedroom with the child. It can be challenging, especially since he’s getting older and doesn’t always want me in the room, even if he’s told to let me in. I understand that there can be big expectations on both sides. But as long as you communicate clearly what you need from me, I know I can meet your expectations.
During summer break, my routine starts pretty early. I wake up around 7 a.m., have breakfast, and do the laundry. I clean the house when they’re awake, which sometimes means waiting until 9 or 10 a.m. When I go to the market, my boss gives me money for meals. He asks whether I want to join or not. After returning from shopping, I prepare breakfast for the kids, usually something simple like eggs or instant noodles. Then, I continue with household chores. For lunch, they mainly like rice, but on weekends, they enjoy udon. Dinner is usually around 8 p.m., but sometimes my boss takes a while to eat, and I have to wait until they finish before I can wash the dishes. I shower in the morning and at night, and I wash my clothes by hand. After I'm done, I often have to wait for the kid to open his room so I can go to sleep.
I’m a little shy at first, but once I’m comfortable in my surroundings, I adjust quickly. I really hope you’ll give me the chance to work for your family.
