Hi, I’m Jona from the Philippines. I’m separated and have three children. I’ve worked in Hong Kong as a domestic helper since 2015. I’ve had three employers during this time. My first employer was a Chinese family with a couple and two boys who were 4 and 6 years old, along with a cat and a dog. I stayed with them for 3 years and 5 months, but I had to break my contract. My second employer was a French/Chinese family with two boys, ages 1.5 and 4. I worked there for 2 years and 8 months, and I had a co-helper. My boss ended my contract when they decided to hire only one helper, since one of the kids started school full-time. They even provided me a reference letter. Currently, I’m working for a Greek/Russian couple with three grown children and a cat. I've been with them since 2021, but they will be moving back to Greece for good in August, as my boss is retiring from HKUST at the end of June. My duties have included cooking, shopping, washing and ironing clothes, car washing, gardening, taking care of pets, arranging playdates, and dropping off and picking up kids from school and other activities.
