Mary Grace

I’ve been working in Hong Kong for 12 years now. I started with a Chinese family of five, mom, dad, and their three boys aged 17, 15, and 9. My main duties were cleaning the house, doing the marketing, and picking the kids up from school and taking them to their tutors and other activities. After two years, I switched to working for an American family.

This family had a big house, two dogs, and a lovely garden. I worked for them for 10 years. My responsibilities included cooking, managing the household, and taking care of the two dogs. Sometimes I would go grocery shopping, but usually, my boss did the shopping since we lived a bit far from the city. When I started with them, the family consisted of the mom, dad, and two girls who were 10 and 11. After the girls went off to university, my boss's elderly mother moved in with us. My tasks included laundry, ironing, cooking, cleaning their three-story house, gardening, and walking the dogs twice a day. I followed recipes from my boss, and we usually cooked simple American dishes, some western recipes, and occasional easy Chinese meals. In 2023, I returned to the Philippines to get married, and my employer moved back to the USA two years after I left. I’m always willing to learn and flexible with my work.
