Mary Mae

Hello to my future employer! My name is Mary Mae, I’m 27 years old and single. I graduated from college with a degree in Secondary Education, majoring in English, and I'm a licensed teacher in the Philippines. My dad is a fisherman and my mom is a housewife. I recently returned to the Philippines from Hong Kong where I worked for six months. Unfortunately, my employer let me go with a one-month notice, but there wasn’t any reason given in the termination letter. I was hired to care for four adults, but it turned out to be just an elderly couple, aged 64 and 65, who manage well on their own and don't need assistance with their medications. My daily tasks included general cleaning, washing and ironing clothes, and cooking simple meals like steamed fish, stir-fried broccoli or Choi sum, and pak choi. I also prepared their late-night snacks, like strawberries and chia seeds, and breakfast in the morning, which usually included avocado and leafy greens with soy milk and coffee. My typical day starts at 5:50 am, and I begin my work at 7:30 am. I have my day off every Tuesday. Before Hong Kong, I worked in the Philippines for 2 years and 9 months. I left that job to focus on studying for the teacher’s licensure exam. During that time, I took care of five adults and one child who was 8 years old. There were three helpers in the house, and my main responsibility was the child, although I helped with the household chores when he was at school. My employer usually dropped him off, but I would often pick him up when she was busy. I also tutored my nephews and nieces on my days off or during holidays. Kids are really advanced these days because of technology, so I helped them with reading, writing, coloring, counting, and learning their alphabet. I consider myself energetic, hardworking, eager to learn new things, patient, and kind.
