Hello dear employers, my name is Hana May, and I’m 38 years old. I’m married and I have two sons. I’ve been working abroad for 10 years now. My first job overseas was in Singapore from 2013 to 2015, where I worked for a Malaysian family. I took care of five children, mostly looking after a 3-years-old girl. Mostly I send her in school and bring her home.., and along with that, I did cleaning, laundry, cooking, and supervising the kids.
From 2015 to 2019, I worked in Hong Kong for four years, taking care of an elderly man (Kongkong). It was just the three of us in the house, including my employer. My daily routine involved checking all his medications and bringing him out for breakfast. Then, I would head to the market and return home to complete my daily tasks like cleaning, cooking soup, and preparing meals. Before 11 am, I would take him back home. We also did exercises together and I monitored his blood pressure three times a day. I accompanied him to his check-ups and pretty much managed everything at home, including budgeting $100 for daily meals. Sadly, Kongkong has passed away. Due to the pandemic, I was supposed to return home, but things were really strict back then.
In 2022, after things got a bit better, I applied to work in the UAE. It was easier to apply there, and I ended up working for an Emirati family. My main priority was to guide their special needs teenage girl and help tutor her for school. I needed to be by her side as requested by my employer. I also helped take care of her two siblings, waking them up for school and preparing their uniforms and lunch boxes. I managed my time to drop off the special needs girl first, then the 3-year-old sister, and I also kept their rooms and wardrobes clean and tidy.
Currently, I work for a Chinese family in Singapore, and I will finish my job on July 1. My main duties here include keeping the house clean and preparing everything for the kids, like their breakfast and uniforms. I also manage meal planning and cooking. I’m patient and have a strong determination to learn. I believe if I make a mistake, saying sorry is the best way forward and I must learn from it. I respect and value my work, and that’s very important to me. All glory be to God.
