Friendly Hong Kong family seeking a long-term, English-speak

We are a family of four living in Ma On Shan, Hong Kong: two working parents and two daughters (ages 6 and 5). We do not have any pets. Our family values kindness, respect, emotional stability, and, most importantly (though we know it is not always easy), open and honest communication. Our children’s growth—especially their emotional and psychological well-being—is also a top priority for us.

We are looking for a long-term helper who can look after our daughters both outside (their safety) and inside (their hearts and stomachs – love and good food). We therefore expect someone who has experience looking after children and has basic cooking skills. You do not need to be an expert cook, but you should know fundamental cooking techniques and be comfortable preparing simple, healthy meals for the family. Experience with or willingness to cook fusion-style dishes is a plus.

Your main focus will be childcare and cooking, with only light housework. Our home is expected to be equipped with a few automatic appliances which could lighten your workload, so you can concentrate more on childcare. The house will also be partially renovated, so you can expect to work with some new facilities and furniture.

You will be responsible for daily routines such as preparing meals for the children, assisting them with dressing and bathing, taking them to and from school and interest classes, and supervising playtime in a safe and positive way. We hope you can engage the children in age-appropriate activities, ensure their safety at all times, and communicate promptly with us about any issues.

We are looking for someone who is energetic yet gentle, reliable, and comfortable working independently. You should be patient with children, organized enough to follow a fixed daily schedule, and able to use simple smartphone apps like WhatsApp for coordination. Fluency in English is required; Cantonese is not necessary but we do expect you to be willing to learn basic Cantonese over time. We hope to build a lasting working relationship of at least six years.

Meals are provided; you will usually eat together with the children and sometimes with the whole family. In return, we offer a salary of HK$5,400–5,600 per month (depending on experience), suitable private accommodation, one rest day per week, statutory holidays, paid annual leave, employer’s liability insurance, medical coverage as required by law, and round-trip airfare as per the standard employment contract.
