My mother is in her advanced stage of dementia which can cause her to be temperamental. My mother can still walk but at a slow pace and is at high risk of falls. Two helpers will eventually be hired to care for my mother. You will work as a team together with the other helper and me to take care of my mother, provides companionship by chatting with her and listening to her stories, calming her down when she feels distressed and distraughted, assists her in showering and toileting, prevents falls, taking her out for walks, cooks her meals and coax her to finish her meals, tidying up after her activities, cleaning her up after her toileting (pee and poop), practising strict hygiene to prevent infections.
It will help a lot if you already have a positive attitude, calm and compassionate personality to care for the vulnerable elderly with dementia, high tolerance for mood crises, rational problem solving skill and perhaps most importantly, a playful sense of humour.
You will not be suitable for this job if you are impatient and easily gets emotional instead of using calm, rational intelligence to solve problems.
My mother knows basic English but it is important that the helper must be able to speak or willing to learn basic conversational Mandarin or Cantonese to entertain my mother throughout the day mainly to distract her from her negative moods.
I have university degrees in nursing and psychology as well as advanced certifications in nutrition, health and fitness so you can definitely learn lots from me if you are an enthusiastic learner. If mutual courtesy, respect, gratitude and professionalism are a big part of your personality, we will get along very well and you will be generously rewarded with extra benefits and perks throughout your employment with me.
