We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Domestic Helper to join our family in providing care for my 90-year-old mother, who is living with severe dementia. While she may have challenging moods, there are also many moments filled with calm and good nature. You will receive training in various strategies to effectively manage her emotions during difficult times, ensuring that her wellbeing is at the forefront of our care.
My mother walks at a slow pace and is at a high risk of falls, making your role essential in ensuring her safety. Together with another helper and myself, we will collaboratively provide comprehensive care. This includes offering companionship through conversation, listening to her stories, assisting with personal hygiene activities, supporting her during walks, preparing her meals, and maintaining a tidy living environment. Additionally, since she will need assistance during the night, we will rotate to stay with her 2 to 3 nights a week to ensure her safety while going to the bathroom.
We highly value a positive attitude, a calm demeanor, and a compassionate personality, as these traits are crucial when caring for an elderly individual with dementia. A high tolerance for mood fluctuations, strong problem-solving skills, and, most importantly, a playful sense of humor will significantly contribute to your success in this role.
This position is not suitable for individuals who are impatient or easily affected by emotional situations and her own emotions because maintaining a calm and rational approach is essential for effective caregiving.
While my mother has some understanding of English, it is important for you to either speak or be willing to learn basic conversational Mandarin or Cantonese. This will facilitate engaging interactions and provide her with comfort, as she feels most at ease communicating in Mandarin, based on her experiences with previous caregivers.
I hold a master's degree in nursing with certification as an emergency nurse and a bachelor's degree in psychology, along with advanced certifications in nutrition, elderly care, medical exercise, fitness, and self-defense. If you have a passion for learning, you will have the opportunity to gain a wealth of knowledge from my experiences. If mutual courtesy, respect, gratitude, and professionalism resonate with you, we can establish a great working relationship, and you can expect generous rewards and benefits throughout your employment.
